The Last Week of May

This week has been as exciting and interesting as usual. David has been busy thinking up new ways to entertain himself.(click on "entertain himself" for more description.)

 

See's Candies store opened up just down the street. This could be a problem. It's right next door to Pat and Oscar's-home of the addictive breadsticks. We're doomed.

 

We celebrated Aunt Chris's birthday at the Olive Garden. Mark, Abby and I drove out to O'side for a most enjoyable, pleasant dinner with the Wicks. (Most enjoyable and pleasant in part because the boys stayed home.)

 

I had given up on the wooden playhouse because the roof and door were falling off. Actually lots of parts were falling off. But, Mark saw potential and got to work. He and James replaced the roof and spruced it up, relocated it to the concrete pad and viola~ a breath of new life!
This picture does it no justice. The placement next to the storage shed is a bit awkward, but it gets it out of the dirt. Mark also put fresh mulch down and some stepping stones. In person, it looks really nice and a huge improvement on what it was. We woke up to rain this morning so James was anxious to check out the new roof. It actually kept the rain out very nicely. Great work boys!!

 

 

Next up: New playroom floor coming on June 18th....Can't wait!!

CP-just o-K

Abby's class "pet" is Corduroy the Bear. Whenever she gets to bring Corduroy home for the night, it's a huge deal. This time, we took him with us to CPK for dinner. (Totally because he wanted to, not because we happened to have 3 free kid's meal vouchers.)
Abby has recently been "allowing" me to put her hair back in a loose braid. Thank goodness!
P.S. James officially can not and will not order the aforementioned kid's meal. Apparently, he is not a "little kid" anymore. Heaven help us.....

Ironman 2011

The 2nd Annual St. George Ironman was Saturday, May 7th and our good friend Tom Naylor was a participant. We were in desperate need of a St. George vacay, so we all headed out to watch and cheer on our favorite Ironman!
The race starts at 7am with a 2(point)4 mile swim at Sand Hollow, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon. We spent the whole day spectating the craziness. It was fantastic!

 

We had to leave at 5:30am to ride the bus out to Sand Hollow. A tad bit early, but totally worth it, especially since a warm breakfast was awaiting us at the VIP tent.

 

We found Tom in the crowd before he lined up to start the swim. Did I mention his daughter Brynn was there with us too? Brynn is like a super-star in my kid's minds. (Especially Abby) Love her!!

 

 

 

Tom made great time on the swim. He is the happiest racer we saw all day. I swear he always had a smile on his face when we saw him!

 

 

 

We had some down time during the bike ride. Plenty of time to hang out, eat shaved ice, go for a walk to Iceberg to get a soda, pose in trees...

 

 

 

 

 

See what I mean? Smiling- after 112 miles up crazy hills in 92 degree weather. Oh by the way, he's got to go run a marathon now...

 

Baby sisters of big brothers-they get each other!

 

 

 

 

He made it thru, with a smile! He finished at about 10:30pm. We girls were able to stay up to see the finish, the boys had partied too hard all day so they missed hearing, "You are an IRONMAN!"

 

 

This was one of my favorite days, in recent history! I would even dare to say it was more fun (and exhausting) than a day at Disneyland. (That's alot coming from me.) There was such fantastic people-watching, great weather, fun spectators to mingle with, and of course, all the VIP perks!

VIP Baby-Sand Hollow

Ok, so this is how we do Ironman. We be VIP. Shout out to Robie for bestowing VIP passes upon us. Our race spectating days will never be the same if this is what we have to compare to. So we went over to the convention center Thursday before the race to get hooked up.

 

 

 

 

Being a VIP means you can eat all the goodies in the VIP room, including hot chocolate, chips, fruit snacks, candy, etc..

 

We also got to make some cheering signs. My favorite is David's. "It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Iron Tom!"

 

 

We then headed to Sand Hollow to check it out. What a fun place! The weather was perfectly warm and the kids played in the water. We will definitely have to go back there next time we are in town.

 

 

 

 

 

 

That evening we went up to the rocks on Red Cliff. The boys have so much fun climbing and exploring and the sunset made for a perfect photo backdrop. I love the red rock of St. George! It is gorgeous!!

No better way to end the day than a trip to Nielsen's! Yummy!
