Saturday was a beautiful day at La Jolla Shores. The waves were perfect. Mark pushed Ethan and Zane out on some waves. He watched James catch a few of his own. The boys were done with surfing so it seemed like the perfect time for the "old man" to catch a few of his own. I saw him ride one nice wave and drop off. Next thing I knew, he was walking up the shore towards us. Strange. Mark never catches just one wave...
Mark has been surfing since he was 13. The pasttime has never caused a trip to the Emergency Room. Until today.Mark's own board came back at him and the fin knocked him in the forehead, causing a nice gash in the skin. It was quite deep so we went to the lifequard who cleaned him up and directed him to the ER.What a happy guy! He's also never had stitches before. That's all about to change...He earned himself 5 internal stitches and 8 stitches for us all to see and awe at. What a trooper! I always love a good trip to the Emergency Room, so it was quite an enjoyable day. The doctor did a very nice sewing job, so it should heal nicely and hopefully the scar won't be too bad. So, the next question is, when does he get back out surfing again???

Poor Mark! that will be a pretty nice battle wound!
Oh wow Mark, that must have been a great wave. You wear stitches well.
I heard about your adventure last night when mom and dad called.
You do know that the chicks like
guys with scars don't you?
Battle scars are always nice to have.
All for the love of the sport! Poor Mark - he looks like he took it pretty well though!
Sorry Mark! What a bummer! Aren't you glad it could all be caught on camera??? :0)
I think life was just waiting for cell phone camera's to be invented so that your special moment could be caught on camera. Sorry about the war wound.
Good thing, he seems so happy about it all. Everyone needs a cool face scar.
Ohh, Mark, Ouch! Love the smiles though. He never seems to leave home without them.
It comes with the territory right? Cool gash!
Did you thank Mark properly for giving you a Saturday in your favorite place?
I still can't believe that didn't leave a bad scar. At the camp out you could hardly tell that anything had happened! He's way braver than me by far!
